How Does Mr Clean Magic Eraser Work?
By using just a sponge and a bit of water, the Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean can clean a wide variety of messes. There have also been many knockoffs, I recommend sticking with the original. An ingredient called formaldehyde-melamine-sodium bisulfite copolymer is used to make Magic Erasers from melamine foam.
Melamine foams are soft yet abrasive. Meaning you can scrape away the stuck-on residue in the most unlikely of places. The best part is that the magic eraser uses only water to get most cleaning tasks done! The magic eraser loosens dirt, making it easier to clean!
Many people think magic erasers are only for washing walls. But the reality is these nifty little cleaning sponges can be used on a variety of other surfaces in your home.
There are various opinions stated online about the over-effectiveness of magic eraser cleaning. Its true-you can accidentally scrub too hard, remove paint from walls, and lightly damage some materials.
Additionally, you can also cause your eraser to shred with aggressive cleaning and too much water! That’s why the following tidbits are super important to remember.

Tips For Cleaning With A Magic Eraser
- These sponges absorb a lot of water. Make sure to only use a little water if the situation calls for it.
- Always squeeze excess water from the sponge! It never needs to be saturated to work. Over-saturating your eraser can cause it to shred when pressure is applied.
- As mentioned above, don’t rub too hard when cleaning, as this can also create shedding.
- Remember, the material is abrasive, so only apply slight pressure when cleaning until you find the sweet spot you need to get the job done.
