1: Take Out The Trash
Keeping your bedroom clean is essential for maintaining a good quality of life. Start by removing all trash from the room, as well as anything that doesn’t belong there, like dirty dishes, food delivery receipts, the kids toys, or other items that don’t belong. Any broken items should be tossed as well, to prevent more clutter.
Empty the trash can if you have one, and make sure to replace the trash bag itself. You can simply take dirty dishes to the kitchen for cleaning later.
As you clean your room, removing these random items (especially broken items) ensures that your room remains tidy and free of clutter for more space, better health, and peace of mind. Considering this task an important part of your routine will help ensure consistency in your living environment – no matter what distractions may arise out of life’s daily hustle and bustle.
Pro tip: Once you’ve emptied the trash can, place a couple of trash bag replacements in the bottom of the trash bin to make it easier to replace the liners. Doing so will save time and energy when refilling your trash containers and make life easier. Do this in every trash can in the house, especially in the kids rooms!
2: Pick Up Dirty Clothes
Having a laundry hamper handy as you clean your bedroom is a great way to get organized, but even if you don’t, it’s important to be vigilant about picking up your dirty clothes.
Dirty laundry can pile up quickly, especially when you throw clothes on the floor instead of putting them where dirty laundry should go – in your hamper! Taking the time regularly to pick clothes off the floor, to put clean clothes that have just been laundered away, can make a huge difference! Just doing this one chore, will help to clean your bedroom, and , will make your room look more inviting.
So pick up all dirty clothes and make sure they make their way into their rightful place in your hamper or washer to maintain an orderly space.
Having laundry hampers in all bedrooms can be extremely beneficial. By doing this, you ensure that every member of the household is able to conveniently collect their dirty clothing in one designated area so that sorting, washing, and folding them becomes a much easier process.
Additionally, having laundry hampers in each room helps keep the overall space neat, there really is no excuse as to why dirty clothes would be laying on the floor instead of in the hamper! Although, my son still manages to get clothes around the hamper, but not actually in the hamper!
Not to mention, coordinating where family members place their belongings allows for an extra layer of organization that saves time and energy when it comes to locating items during the day!
3: Put Away Clean Clothes
Having clean clothing lying in piles (especially on the bed) can be unsightly and unhygienic. If you have any of your freshly laundered items stored in your bedroom or laundry room, it’s a good idea to put them away as soon as possible.
Taking the time to hang your clean clothes up in the closet or fold them into furniture drawers helps keep your living area tidy and organized, creating a much more pleasant atmosphere for yourself and anyone else who spends time in the area.
Doing so also prevents dust from settling on the clean items and ensures that they remain fresh in the closet until you choose to wear them again. Now is as good a time as ever to get those clean clothes stowed away in the closet- so go ahead and make it happen!
I bet it felt good Mama, to get those clothes stored in the correct place!
Have unsightly closet doors? Don’t worry, we’ll get to those later in our checklist!
Pro tip: if you don’t have room for all your clothes? It might be time to declutter your closet! When it comes to decluttering clothes, there is an array of simple steps one can take towards achieving a streamlined wardrobe.
It’s important to start by taking stock of what you have and organizing your belongings by skirt lengths or pant sizes. This makes evaluating which items need to be kept and discarded easier. Consider donating items and transitioning your closet into timeless essentials with versatile pieces that work for multiple occasions.
In addition – depending on the nature and value of certain items – you may even have the ability to sell unwanted clothing online or at second-hand stores. Decluttering clothes can ultimately leave you feeling lighter and more organized while leaving extra space in your home.
4: Strip Your Bed
Making sure your bed linen is clean and fresh is essential for a restful sleep. Therefore, it’s time to strip that bed of its sheets, pillowcases, duvets, or comforters.
Get these ready to wash as soon as possible: covers can quickly become breeding grounds for dust mites and bacteria. This is why placing clean clothes on your stripped bed isn’t a great idea if it hasn’t been washed in a while.
The best part about this task is that the washing machine will do the majority of the work! But to start, you gotta strip that bed!
Why not make the most of this chore by adding a little luxury? Choose a bed with natural fibers that will feel extra-comfy against your skin and help regulate your body temperature. Furthermore, don’t forget to wash your bed linens regularly—a combination of hot water and chemical-free detergent should do the trick!
Want a fresher mattress now that it’s stripped? Taking the time to refresh a mattress can keep it in better shape for longer and ensure you get the rest you need. To do this, start by gently vacuuming it to remove any surface dirt or dust that has accumulated. Then spot clean any visible stains with a mild detergent diluted in warm water.
Allow the mattress to air dry completely before putting linens back on top and returning your mattress to its full glory. Regularly refreshing your mattress is an easy way to get a better night’s sleep.
Pro tip: You need help doing this, but flipping your mattress over every 6 months or so, makes a huge difference also.
5: Clear Surfaces
Keeping clear surfaces around your bed is incredibly important for organizing and a sense of well-being. Start by decluttering the top of the dresser, bedside table, and other surfaces and furniture.
Doing this on a regular basis, whether it’s every day or once a week, can help control the clutter some feeling that comes with having too many non-essential objects in one space.
Making use of drawers, shelves, and bins can also help prioritize what to keep nearby and what should be kept in its proper place somewhere else out of sight (and off your floor space or taking up space in other rooms).
Once you really begin organizing this way, you’ll notice a big difference in how your bedroom feels! Not to mention that applying this method will enhance the space of any room in your house. When your room looks less cluttered, it become smore inviting. So the next time, you go to put something on or in your bedside table, stop and think, is that really where it should go!

6: Wipe Surfaces Clean
Cleanliness is key for any area in your home, much less the bedroom. In order to maintain spaces that are germ-free, dust-free, and healthy, wiping down surfaces and furniture with a reliable cloth is essential.
Microfiber cloths have become increasingly popular as they are able to pick up dirt, dust and other particles more effectively than regular laundry cloths. Not only can they be used as an alternative to traditional cleaning products and chemicals, but they also involve less effort when compared to scrubbing with a brush or sponge. Avoid using a paper towel, as this can leave debris.
As an added bonus, microfiber cloths can last up to three times longer than other types of cloths because their durable fibers make them highly absorbent. This is mostly likely why you’ll find every cleaning service using them.
Wipe surfaces in the bedroom clean with a microfiber cloth for optimum sanitation results! Surfaces you can wipe down include:
- Bed Frames
- Bedside Tables
- Dressers
- Cedar Chests
- Desks
7: Dust Curtains & Light Fixtures
Dusting curtains and cleaning light fixtures, light switches, and picture frames is an easy and effective task that is often overlooked in anyone’s daily routine of regular cleaning.
In order to ensure these areas are as dust-free as possible, firstly, start by using a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment to get rid of any visible dust in the whole room. Next, use a microfiber cloth and specifically designed cleaning solution for wooden surfaces such as picture frames and light fixtures. Light switches and door handles can be cleaned with a mild cleaner and a dusting cloth.
If deeper cleaning is needed for heavier fabrics, dampen a cloth slightly and use it to tackle spots or stains. Remember to always spot test an inconspicuous area of the curtain fabric before attempting any deep cleaning methods. Such attention to detail will help keep your curtains looking clean and pristine for years to come.
Finally, use a lint roller to remove any remaining dirt or hairs from curtain fabrics. Dusting and cleaning these items regularly will help maintain their longevity while also helping to keep your home (and room) sparkly clean.
Pro tip: Your closet can gather dust as well. Make a habit of wiping down shelves, the ledges on closet doors, and baseboards for a quick deep clean!
8: Wipe Down Windows & Mirrors
Keeping windows and mirrors clean can be a tricky task, but with the right approach, it can be done easily.
If you have a brush attachment, you can vacuum dust from the fronts of mirrors, and along window sills. Start by spraying windows and mirrors with a glass cleaner of your choice. Take a lint-free cloth and rub it over the surface in circular motions ensuring all dirt is wiped off the surfaces. For hard-to-reach spots, dip an old toothbrush in a cleaning solution, then rub it on those small areas.
Finally, use a dry cloth to polish the mirror or window until they sparkle and shine like new! Then open a window for some fresh air while you continue cleaning;.
With these tips, you can make sure that your windows and mirrors are always tidy and debris free!
Making your own glass cleaner with natural ingredients is a great way to save money by not paying full price for products and avoid harsh chemicals. Vinegar is one item found in almost every pantry that can easily be used as a natural glass cleaner if mixed with water or baking soda. This mixture can clean your windows and mirrors without leaving streaks, unlike other store-bought products.
By using natural ingredients, you are also protecting the environment by reducing plastic waste from bottles of shop-bought cleaners. Furthermore, you don’t need expensive equipment and cleansing tools – just some solution and a lint-free cloth!
9: Vaccum Or Sweep
Cleaning your bedroom floor is simple with the proper knowledge and supplies. Ideally, a vacuum is best, but a broom will work in a pinch for any room. That’s because brooms tend to spread dust and debris around; alternatively, a vacuum can “suck up” all that filth! Plus, it’s much easier to clean under furniture with a vacuum attachment.
To vacuum or sweep your bedroom, begin by gathering all debris, like clothing or trash, off the entire floor (which you should have done earlier). Once done, grab a sweeping tool such as a broom to concentrate on any immediate dirt and dust particles.
Work in quadrants from one side of the room to another until you’ve swept away the majority of particles. Be sure to sweep across the room in the same direction to create a “debris pile” to make this easier. Or, use your vacuum for cleaning the entire floor space, and you will be able to remove dirt and dust in record time!
Finally, vacuuming is recommended for cleaning remaining hairs, pet dander, fur, crumbs, and other diminutive pieces of dirt. If possible, attach a small vacuum brush-head attachment, making it easier to clean the corners and edges of furniture.
Stick with this system every week and keep your bedroom floor looking neat (without necessarily having to deep clean)!
Cleaning hardwood flooring correctly is important in order to preserve the finish and avoid any damage. First and foremost, sweeping should be done regularly with a soft-bristled broom to ensure that dirt and debris is removed without scratching or denting the wood. Always use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove dust, as vacuums with a beater bar can really do quite a bit of damage.
When using detergent or liquid cleaners, never put too much on the floor, since this could leave it sticky and vulnerable. Similarly, cloth mops must remain damp but not wet while being used. To avoid permanent water stains, dry cleaning should always be done immediately after spills occur. Following these tips will keep hardwood floors looking new for many years to come.
Pro tip: if vacuuming wears you down, motivate yourself to have fun while doing it! Play music or listen to a podcast as you clean to stay engaged and motivated. I put my iRobot Roomba in my bedroom at least twice per month and let it do it’s job. This helps me to ensure I get my room clean easily and without much effort on my part. It will help to clean your room fast, because it does most of the work!
10: Remake The Bed
Making the bed with clean linens is one of the most invigorating, satisfying tasks you can do in your bedroom space. If you can, you should make your bed first thing in the morning to start the day. But, if you’ve stripped the bed earlier, you gotta remake it at some point! When cleaning your bedroom, I’ve placed this step here later in the routine to allow time for cleaning.
First, begin by taking all the dirty linens off the bed mattress and replacing them with fresh sheets that have been washed in hot water for best results. Ensure you tuck the corners firmly into place; this does not need to be meticulous, however, it should create a sturdy base for which to construct a neat bed on top of.
Finally, position any blankets or duvets you may use onto the mattress and carefully fold them over, creating as symmetrical as a look as possible. With these steps done and a few days of relaxation ahead of you, your freshly made bed will become your haven and provide comfort that only a clean set of sheets can bring!
Plus, at the end of the day when you are exhausted, and ready for bed, you have a beautiful clean bed waiting for you. Your bedroom should be an oasis, not a messy bedroom, you want to stay away from!
Tips To Stay Motivated While Cleaning
Keeping a tidy home can be a challenge, but staying motivated while cleaning is key. To make the process easier, start by setting realistic goals and breaking long tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. Make sure to reward yourself after you complete each milestone – it could be anything from a tasty dessert or a night watching your favorite show.
If you’re the type to get bored easily, try switching up your routine from time to time. Utilize upbeat music – this will give you an extra boost of energy when tackling tedious old tasks. For some extra motivation, organize a cleaning competition with your friends or family – have everyone do one chore and have an impartial judge declare the winner!
I hope these 10 steps will help you to clean your bedroom without too much effort! Just remember, keeping clothes off the floor of your bedroom on an ongoing basis, is the best way to clean your bedroom, empty the house every week, and stop putting clean clothing lying on the bed.
