Eyeliner isn’t always the easiest piece of makeup to remove from fabrics, and on the carpet, it can be a bit of a nightmare.

We’ve all been there with these makeup mishaps. Dropping the eyeliner while doing make-up and trying to get the children to settle down is a common occurrence in my house. A dropped eyeliner pen and lots of stomping feet equal eyeliner stains in the freshly cleaned carpet.

But I don’t worry about such things because I know just the steps to take to get my carpet looking fresh and clean once more.

Here is an easy trick on how to get eyeliner out of the carpet, and an additional trick just in case the first one doesn’t work for you for whatever reason.

How To Get Eyeliner Out Of Carpet

The most important thing about cleaning eyeliner from carpet is to remember to tackle the eyeliner stain as soon as it happens. Also, you might have to try a few different methods before you find one that works because not all carpets and eyeliner pens are the same.

Always remember to test a discreet area before trying any cleaning solutions to ensure you will not cause damage or discoloration to the carpet.

This is my favorite trick to getting stains out of carpet and the secret ingredient is….SHAVING CREAM!

Here are the materials needed:

  • Shaving cream
  • Warm water
  • Cleaning cloth

First, you will need to add some shaving cream to your clean cloth. It is best if your cloth is white, but it doesn’t have to be. Massage the shaving cream into the eyeliner stain using circular motions. Rinse your cloth with warm water and then blot the stained area. Keep adding shaving cream and dabbing it off with water until the stain disappears. It can take up to 3 cycles of shaving cream and water treatment to get the stain out.

That’s it! So easy, and almost everyone has shaving cream at home.

If you prefer to not use shaving cream on your carpet, you can use dish soap and warm water to remove the stain as well.

Items you will need:

  • Warm water
  • Dish soap
  • Cleaning cloth

Add 1 tablespoon of dish soap into 1/2 cup of warm water. Dip your cloth into the mixture so that the towel is wet but not soaked. Blot the stain with the wet cloth until the area is saturated. Rinse your cloth out and dab the stain until all the soap and suds are gone. Keep blotting the stain until it disappears.

You can also use ammonia in place of dish soap if you wish.

More Carpet Cleaning Tips For You

When cleaning your carpet you have to be careful to work with the carpet in order to not ruin it. Here are some more carpet cleaning tips for you.

  • White towels are best to use when cleaning carpet as colour from a colourful cloth could potentially transfer into the carpet.
  • Do not apply the cleaning solution directly to the carpet. Apply it to a cloth first, then blot.
  • Cold water could cause stains to settle, so use hot or warm water when treating a stain.
  • Use a cotton swab to clean deep into looped carpet fibres.
  • Always blot the carpet as rubbing can cause the stain to spread.

If you happen to not have any dish soap or shaving cream on hand, try blotting the stain with baby wipes, or even using the dabbing procedure with makeup remover.

Accidents happen, especially when it comes to makeup since we use it on a daily basis. My advice is, if you are going to be doing your makeup near the carpet, lay down a towel to help prevent the eyeliner from smudging into the carpet. Otherwise, don’t sweat it! It can be easy enough to get the stain out of the carpet using my simple methods with common ingredients.

  1. Great technique. Would using a rag, like an old t-shirt, work instead of the towel? I image the towel will be stained and it might not be worth trying to remove the transferred stain.

  2. Great way to get rid of stains! I like that you used the white towels to tell how much of the stain was coming off. I have seen some people use this method, but they’ve used colored towels instead. I had to mention that they should use white towels so the dye doesn’t soak up on the carpet. Thanks for the post!
