How Do I Get Eyeliner Out Of My Carpet?
The most important thing about cleaning eyeliner from carpets is to remember to tackle the eyeliner stain as soon as it happens. You might have to try a few different methods before you find one that works because not all carpets and eyeliner pens are the same.
Always remember to test the cleaning solution in a discreet area to ensure that the cleaner won’t cause damage to the carpet or discolor the fibers.
My favorite method for removing eyeliner stains from carpets is shaving cream. Yes, you’ve read that right. SHAVING CREAM! Shaving cream is one of my secret cleaning solutions that work wonders on quite a few stains. NewsHub agrees!
1) Here is a list of the materials that you’ll need:
- Shaving cream
- Warm water
- Cleaning cloth
2) First, we’ll need to add some shaving cream to a clean cloth. It is best to use a white towel since colored towels can possibly stain your carpet. Now, massage the shaving cream into the eye liner stain using circular motions.
3) Rinse your cloth with warm water and then blot the stained area. Keep adding shaving cream and dabbing it off with water until the stain disappears.
4) It can take up to 3 attempts of shaving cream and water treatment to get the stain out.
That’s it! Easy, right?
If you can’t find any shaving cream in your house, don’t go out to buy some just yet. I have some alternative methods you can try.
Makeup Remover
Try using makeup remover since it is specifically designed to remove makeup. You can use makeup remover wipes or a clean, white cloth soaked in liquid makeup remover. Blot the area with a damp cloth rather than rubbing since rubbing may spread the stain. Use a second dry cloth to absorb the excess liquid that has seeped into the carpet. Repeat the process until most of the eyeliner stain is removed.
Baby Wipes
Models routinely use baby wipes to remove eye makeup since it does an excellent job at removing eyeliner. To remove eyeliner stains from your carpet using baby wipes, you can try wiping the area with wipes until the stain starts to lift. Depending on the size of the stain, you might need more than one wipe.
Ammonia
Combine 1/2 cup of warm water and one tablespoon of ammonia in a mixing bowl to make an excellent stain remover. To remove the eyeliner, dab this cleaner onto the carpet with a cloth and then rinse the cloth in between the steps. You can repeat these steps until the stain disappears or the stain no longer wants to budge. Once you’re done, use a dry towel to remove excess liquid from the carpet.
White Vinegar
Distilled white vinegar is somewhat acidic and effective in removing a wide range of stains. Pour one teaspoon of white vinegar into 1 cup of warm water to remove stubborn eyeliner from your carpet. To remove the stain, dab the mixture onto the carpet with a white cleaning towel and wipe it out. You might have to repeat the steps until the stain disappears.
Dry-Cleaning Solvent
If everything else fails, try a dry-cleaning solvent. If permitted to be absorbed into the carpet, these solvents can cause damage to the backing, so use them with caution. Rather than pouring the solvent directly over the stain, dip a white cleaning towel in the solution and dab it onto the carpet gently. Press a clean, dry paper towel into the carpet once more to remove the solvent and stain.

- Cold water could cause stains to settle, so use hot or warm water when treating a stain.
- Use a Q-tip to clean deep into looped carpet fibers.
- Always blot the carpet, as rubbing can cause the stain to spread.
If you don’t have any dish soap or shaving cream at home, try blotting the stain with baby wipes, or even try the dabbing procedure with makeup remover.
