The Best Baby Safe Floor Cleaner (Safe For Pets Too)

Sharing is caring!

I rounded up the best options for baby-safe floor cleaners to help new parents keep their homes clean and chemical-free!

Keeping your baby safe doesn’t end at baby gates and safety gear for the home. Creating a safe environment also includes the types of chemicals you are needing to clean your home.

My favorite baby-safe floor cleaner is the Puracy All Purpose Cleaner which is Vegan and cruelty-free, AND also does a great job at cleaning. There is nothing better than using a product that works and is also better for our earth overall.

You may have grown up with bleach and other heavy cleaners on the grocery list but that should change once you start having kids or pets in your home, I know that happened with me.

A lot of parents and pet parents do switch to natural and non-toxic cleaning products that are not harmful to pets and babies when they realize the dangers of having chemicals in the house and floating around the air.

Once babies start to crawl and explore, it is even more important to keep chemicals out of reach, and that means off the floor as well.

During the crawling stages, the floors need to always be clean and you’ll find yourself stepping and mopping the floors more often.

When you use standard floor cleaners, keep in mind that while you may have disinfected your floors, you may have put your baby’s health in jeopardy. These floor cleaners’ harsh components can remove stains and kill germs, but they can also harm your child’s health in a variety of ways, including:

  • Irritation of the lungs
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Eczema
  • Itching of the eyes
  • Poisoning
  • Other unidentified health consequences

You should learn to conduct safety testing on things that you use on a daily basis. Chemical components in many items have the potential to harm all members of the household, with a particular focus on newborns and children. As a result, you should start avoiding or minimizing the use of harsh chemical-based floor cleaners. Instead, clean the floors with baby-safe cleaners.

To make your life easier, I found the best ways to have a clean floor and not use chemicals on it either.

Cleaning the Floors with Water

Why Should You Use A Baby Safe Floor Cleaner?

If you are using a bleach-based floor cleaner to disinfect and deep clean your floors, you may be putting your own health and your babies’ health at risk. These cleaners contain harsh ingredients that do make your home clean by removing stains and killing germs but can also poison your babies and pets too.

Bleach-based cleaners can cause irritation in the airways, affect allergies, cause eczema breakouts and eye irritations, and can simply poison the person cleaning or the baby or pet that is crawling on the floor.

The chemical ingredients in these bleach-based products can really cause bad harm to any member of the family but the main focus is to keep crawling babies safe and sound.

Baby safe cleaners are a great way to ensure you are getting your floor nice and clean while also providing a safe environment for your little one to crawl around on.

Why Should You Use A Baby Safe Floor Cleaner?

Cleaning the Floors with Water

When cleaning with water, keep in mind that the warmer the water, the better. Water is your most powerful Iapon against stains, dirt, bacteria, and microorganisms, to mention a few. It’s why steam cleaners are so effective: hot water cleans better.

I mix detergents with water in dishwashers and washing machines. Detergents are added to water to help it clean more effectively. To summarize, every time you clean, make sure the water is warm (at least warm.)

When water is heated, oxygen and hydrogen particles are accelerated, and these particles (together with their electrons) puncture the cloth and remove stains. So, whenever you need to clean something for yourself or your children, make sure to use hot water. (Avoid letting your youngsters approach the boiling water.)

Warmer water will help soften stains on your floors and carpets, making mopping and rubbing easier.

Cleaning Floors with Vinegar

Vinegar has a strong odor, but it’s also a natural disinfectant that may help your floors and tiles seem brand new. I also have a solution for the odor! So here’s how you go about it:

You combine vinegar and boiling water in a mixing bowl (ratio 1:2 ).

After that, 10 drops of your preferred essential oil can be added (per every gallon of water).

The beauty of this method is that you can always play about with the formula. If your floors require scrubbing, combine the vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio.

If the odor persists, try switching essential oils. To mask any unpleasant odors, including vinegar, I ly recommend applying lavender essential oil. In your home, I like to use white vinegar or distilled vinegar to clean the floors, but you can try other types as well!

Cleaning the Floors with Water

Cleaning Floors with Dish Soap

Many people are taken aback by this proposal because, after all, dish soap is a chemical-based cleaner, right? In a nutshell, yes and no. Isn’t it true that I use dish soap to clean your dishes? And I think that’s a good and hygienic thing to do because dish soaps are gentle and safe.

Make sure the water is hot, but not hot enough to boil! When the water has reached the proper temperature, add the dish soap. Dish soap is fantastic because it doesn’t leave a sticky residue (you don’t want sticky flooring for your babies or dogs!)

But don’t use too much: just a few drops, mix, and start cleaning. You can add a cup or two of vinegar to the mixture if it isn’t powerful enough to remove the stains.

Cleaning Floors with Baking Soda

Cleaning Floors with Baking Soda

Baking soda is an excellent home remedy. Baking soda is useful for cleaning, odor removal, and overall wellness. So, whenever you’re producing a vinegar-water mixture, always include baking soda.

Baking soda will increase the cleaning power of water while also reducing the vinegar odor. Baking soda is also great for eradicating pet odors if you have them. It’s worth noting that baking soda can also be used to clean carpets.

Shine Up Floors With Olive Oil

Shine Up Floors With Olive Oil

This formula is only applicable to laminate and wood flooring. A mixture of water, vinegar, and olive oil is required. pour the hot water into a large bucket, add a cup or two of vinegar, and a cup of olive oil if you wish to mop the floors.

To get the lemony aroma that you typically find in other wood detergents, you can add a tiny bit of lemon juice. This emulsion will have more flexibility and solidity thanks to the olive oil. This is what will finally give your floors a fresh sheen, and you can rest easy knowing that it is natural and safe.

Cleaning Floors With Salt

Cleaning Floors With Salt

Everything from upholstery to carpets may be cleaned with a solution of salt and vinegar. To mask the vinegar smell, you might add lemon juice (it’s best if you crush organic lemons and make your own juice).

Watermarks can also be removed needing a solution of salt and vinegar. Carpets can also be cleaned with salt. Put a couple of tablespoons on a carpet and wait for the stain to dry whenever you have a fresh stain.

Vacuum it after it has dried. Before vacuuming the salt, keep children and pets away from it.

How Often Should You Clean Floors

You should be stepping on your floors daily and washing them as often as you can possibly squeeze into your busy parenthood life.

Since babies do put everything in their mouths, it is important to wash your floors every second day at the maximum, and daily if you have pets. I personally like to clean the kitchen floors daily regardless of how dirty the floor looks.

o Avoid for Pets and Children

What Household Cleaners to Avoid for Pets and Children

Some traditional household cleaners are increasingly considered dangerous for both newborns and dogs as people become more concerned about product safety and health. To preserve your pet’s health and safety, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) has produced a guide for determining which household cleaning products to keep out of reach.

You should avoid the following toxic household and flooring cleaners:

  • Ammonia 2-butoxyethanol Ethanolamines Chlorine bleach
  • Phthalates / Sulfates
  • Chloride of benzalkonium
  • Triclosan and ammonium chloride are examples of phosphorme ingredients.

According to the Environmental Working Group, fragrance-containing household or flooring cleaners should be avoided. Those with allergies, asthma, or chemical sensitivity may experience respiratory discomfort, sneezing, headaches, and watery eyes from fragrance-containing ingredients.

Wrapping Up - Best Baby Safe Floor Cleaners

Wrapping Up – Best Baby Safe Floor Cleaners

You can certainly make your own floor cleaner that is safe for babies and pets or you can purchase one, that part is totally up to you! Be sure to keep your floors sparkling clean by washing them on a daily basis once the baby starts to crawl. Babies put everything in their mouths, and licking the floor is no exception.

The nice part about these treatments is that you may play around with them and come up with your own combinations. What’s to stop you? Are you sure you have all you need? If you don’t have any essential oils, leave them out of the recipe. If you do, you should be aware that essential oils have a beneficial influence on your spirit as well, but that’s another tale.
